I: Individuals and Groups
Photostats of Canterbury Tales manuscripts in the collection of Frederic Ives Carpenter, professor of Medieval and Renaissance Literature in the department of English at the University of Chicago. The copies were later used by John Matthews Manly, professor of English, and medievalist Edith Rickert for their work on the Chaucer Project. The project's initial goal was to establish an authoritative text of the Canterbury Tales, an objective achieved by collecting, photographing, and collating all extant Chaucer manuscripts.
