Corinthian Expedition 13
III: Events
Fragments of one of four female figural support elements of a marble perirrhanterion (holy water basin), 7th century BCE, from the Temple of Poseidon at Corinth. Each female support figure (alternating with Ram's heads below the basin) stood on a recumbent lion, holding the lion's tail and its leash in either hand. Excavated by a University of Chicago expedition led by Oscar Broneer.
